On Tuesday 3 February, Stichting Kortsnuiten Blijven Bestaan organised an informative meeting for invited guests. During this afternoon, attendees had the opportunity to become acquainted with the BOAS test and its scientific background.

The BOAS test was carried out by veterinarian Dr. Jos van Dijk, during which three randomly selected dogs were examined. All three dogs achieved grade 0, meaning they showed no clinical signs of respiratory problems.

After the break, an interesting lecture followed by

Dr. ir. Pieter Oliehoek. In his presentation, he discussed genetics within cynology and emphasized that it is indeed possible to breed healthy brachycephalic dogs, provided that careful and responsible consideration is given to breeding pairs and genetic combinations. He also stressed that an integrated approach is needed, using far more data than is currently available, particularly in relation to direct health indicators such as the BOAS test and the Body Condition Score.

There was ample opportunity for discussion and asking questions, which was also actively taken advantage of by those present.

๐Ÿ‘‰ In short: an educational and inspiring afternoon, with valuable insights and constructive discussions โ€“ definitely a gathering we feel is worth repeating.
